Announcement of the Publication Celebration Event for “1/1 Scale Testing Ground: Waseda Architecture Exhibition Archive 1957–2025”
A book titled *1/1 Scale Testing Ground: Waseda Architecture Exhibition Archive 1957–2025*, which chronicles the history of the “Architecture Exhibition”—an initiative organized by volunteer students from Waseda University’s Department of Architecture—has been published by Kenchiku Shiryō Kenkyūsha.
This archival volume traces the history of the Architecture Exhibition, which has been held since 1957, through archival research and interviews with alumni. Drawing on a wealth of materials and 15 interviews and essays with alumni, the book reflects on how the Architecture Exhibition has developed its activities while engaging with locations both on and off campus.
Furthermore, to commemorate the book’s completion, we will hold a publication exhibition titled “What Connects Us: Between Us.”
Based on the book’s content, this exhibition introduces the history of the Architecture Exhibition and the scope of student-led activities that have been passed down across generations.
Furthermore, on Monday, May 11, starting at 7:00 PM in the Innovation Lab of Building 55, we will host a symposium featuring Taichi Tomuro, Shishi Kato, Miyuri Yamada, and Kei Sato, who were active in the Architecture Exhibition during their student days.
We hope you will join us.
Additionally, on Friday, May 22, we will hold an exhibition on the 4th floor of the New Building 52. This is a special, one-day-only exhibition. We invite you to come and see it.

What Connects Us: Between Us
Architecture Exhibition Archive 1957–2025
The “Waseda University Architecture Exhibition,” which has been held since before 1957, has served as a laboratory where students have formulated their own questions and experimented with space while grappling with real-world conditions.
To commemorate the publication of the book *A 1/1 Scale Laboratory: Waseda Architecture Exhibition Archive 1957–2025*, this exhibition traces the exhibition’s history using materials preserved from past exhibitions and interviews with the people who have shaped this venue.
The diverse experiments and passion of students across different eras are preserved in words, photographs, and records. Reexamining these materials invites us to consider what we, here and now, can take away from them and where we are headed.
This exhibition is designed to reexamine the connections between those who have created the Architecture Exhibition, those who have viewed it, those who have gone on to practice architecture in society after participating, and the students who will be involved in the future.
Dates: May 11 (Mon) – May 21 (Thu), 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM *Closed on Sundays
Venue: Atrium, 1st Floor, Building 55
Organizers: Yasuhiro Hamashima + Shusho Hamana
Flyer Design: Shusho Hamana

Please come and see this one-day-only special exhibition.
Date and Time: Friday, May 22, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
